Please post your ideas about what you undertand about the inquiry process. This needs to be completed by the end of term one and again in term four.

Term One

At Petone Central we have been looking at different models of inquiry learning over the last two years. Basically the inquiry learning process for us starts with the "big idea" and the "context" from here we formulate questions as to what we want children to gain from their experiences. This is filtered by way of whole school, to classrooms, to individual students. Each unit we undertake has an element of inquiry learning to it. The tools we use could range from a selection of Blooms, Habits of the mind, 4 dubs and an H, or focus specifically on one of these tools. We have recently become part of the "Gifted and Talented" programme for children as well as a G&T programme called "Ihumanea" specifically for our immersion tamariki which again will bring the inquiry process closer to us when working with our gifted and talented children.

ICT AND CLASSROOM LEARNING

Petone Central has incorporated ICT use into learning programmes in the classrooms. It is expected that this is part of planning and reflected in the learning activities the students do. Suzie Vesper and our on-site facilitator, Te Mako Orzecki have been instrumental in getting this implemented. Using ICT to enhance learning is an appraisal goal for every teacher to ensure that students are given maximum access to and use of ICT for learning purposes.

Our students have used CMap for brainstorming, microsoft word, power point presentation and publisher. They are becoming confident in using Word Rocks, Braintastic and Maths invader. They have also produced some excellent work using digital camera and Movie Maker. We have established a Media team made up of Years 7 & 8 students to cover and publicise school events. The students had specialist trainig in the use of associated ICT resources for their work.

The staff has had training in using ICT to meet the needs of gifted and talented students, Etap and relevant websites to meet the diverse needs of our students.
